Seize the Moment this Wonderful January!

January 18th, 2010

Enjoy this cold weather while you can!  Get your kids and you out there and build a snowman!  The hot sun can wait.  I am totally kidding about all of this.  I am happy though because my favorite holiday is coming up…Valentine’s Day!  How can you not go back to grammar school and remember all the crushes you had and how much weight Valentine’s carried to test if your loved one loved you.  I am a total romantic, I can’t help it.

So all day as I was adding our new perfumes and colognes to the site,  every time I would recognize the men or women’s scent, I would go back in time and remember how good they/I/him/her had smelled and where we were and who I liked at the time.  And then I am like really getting side tracked and making mistakes adding them in so if you like order some cologne and it says like $2999.00, it’s totally wrong.  Just email me and I will figure it out. LOL.

Check out these hot, sweet scents that I am craving right now!

Kitty Gallery is excited to carry Romero Britto Luggage.  Although often compared to Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, Romero Britto is a young artist who has emerged with his own imagery and a unique style that is in fact re-defining Pop Art today. Britto’s paintings capture the ecstasy of the imagination.
http://www.kittygallery.com/luggage-best-on-line.php?pg_genre=luggage-best_designer-luggage-sets

His spontaneity and playfulness executed with vibrant colors and blatantly unconventional daring formulas have the ability to appear almost childlike in their style. Albeit upon further observation his abstract constructions and highly sophisticated formations reveal his fundamental command of space, color and the visual experience.
In 1989, Romero Britto’s work was brought to the attention of Michel Roux, former U.S. importer of Absolut Vodka and creator of their legendary advertising campaign. As a result, Britto was crowned their newest showcase artist along with other contemporary art heavy weights such as Ed Ruscha.
Britto’s worldwide exposure propelled his inevitable rise to becoming one of today’s most celebrated and recognizable young artists. As so many modern masters, Britto has already prevailed in creating a characteristic look incorporating his trademark signature amidst skillfully balanced patterns and bold black out lines throughout his distinctive compositions. When not before a canvas, Britto lends his support to major modern concerns such as the American Red Cross, Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Best Buddies International, Amnesty Internationals “Artists For Amnesty”, numerous AIDS related causes, and various environmental organizations.

Britto maintains that “art is too important not to share.” Although his paintings can be found in the collections of heads of state, European nobility, notable art collectors, and superstars of the athletic, entertainment and business industries, Britto insists on making limited edition prints, posters and collectibles available and affordable.

Indeed, when art historians reflect back on art in the 90’s, rest assured that one artist by the name of Romero Britto will be referred to by many, as the artist who captured the essence of this exciting era.

You know how you feel when you wake up a from a nap in the middle of the day?  No, not refreshed.  More like irritated, still tired but know you need to get up or you won’t be able to sleep that night?  Well, try adding nauseated to it.    I wake up to the phone ringing, take the call, talk, over.  Then I decide to get up and make a call to a client.  I hear my two sons wrestling and screaming downstairs so I opt to go on the front porch so my client doesn’t actually realize I am not in my office.  I need to leave a message on a recording and as the beep goes off prompting me to speak I look down on the patio chair and see a new magazine delivered face down-I pick it up-turn it over- who else’s face- on the damn Elle cover?  Jennifer Aniston.  I try to smile through my disgust as I leave the message.  No wonder the MALE mail carrier put it face down, even he is sick of her.

Why did you have to do it Elle?  Last month was Miley Cyrus.  My sister-in-law and I both were confused about that one.  Where are you going with this?  I never bothered even reading Miley’s article or much else of the magazine.  Gag me, if I want to read about her, I will buy teen magazine.  Stop this nonsense.  Just because 250 million little girls love Miley Cyrus and your marketing thinks “oh all these 250 million little girls all have hmmm…probably 30-45 year old mommies and we will try to hook them into buying it because then they think their daughters will think they are cool because their magazine has f&*$## Miley on it.

Newsflash- I don’t have any &^%# daughters and I don’t want Miley Cyrus on any cover of magazine that I subscribe to.   Or Jennifer Aniston.  We need edge and real edge.  Jennifer is all disheveled looking and wrinkeled, one boob showing ( ? seems to be a pattern) on the cover but in reality she would never allow herself to look like that walking out her door.  Give me Amy Winehouse, she is raw, edgy and real.

Before I forget, I love and appreciate the latest Chanel ads.  If only Coco could see them now.

Speaking of magazines, I love Glamour’s  September 2009 issue.  And that is saying alot.  I hadn’t given Glamour the time of day for years,  I was always so sick of their commercially, cheap verbiage they used on their cover and headlines.  The only reason I picked it up was because 1.) I left Miley and Elle home for the weekend (not even a 3 ½ hour car ride could get me to take her).  2.)  Glamour was the only new magazine some other guest left at the lake house.

What I liked the most and got me turning the pages was the  ” We asked our staffers -What is the cheapest thing your wearing right now and the most expensive”?  I like the refreshing reality I felt when reading their answers.  Clothing and accessories can be cool- no matter how much or little they cost AND no matter where or when you bought them.

And so then I was inspired to come up with a handful of outfits when I “shopped my closet” and mixed and matched.  I share them with you below as I finish my writing for the evening and by the way- Glamour magazine-to me- is now all about fashion in case you haven’t read it in a while.  I think I will buy their next issue.  Gone is all their old trashy headlines on “how to give a guy great………….have your best o yet…”.  Or maybe this whole time I was getting them mixed up with Cosmo.  Sorry.

I know this will come as a shock but Michael Jackson———— has died.  Over a week ago.   If your like me, a child of the 70’s or more feminine than not, you may have recently put on some of his tunes and remembered the great performers of 80’s  we had .  He belongs to us just like Madonna.

The fifty year olds and up (fems) had their Elvis Presley and they are the ones who who are scrutinizing Michael the most.  All I know is that Elvis Presley was fat, bloated -same thing I know but I like that word and the image it portrays- and all jacked up on some really good drugs.   “Oh, but he was just the world to me, I loved him so much, I don’t care if he did drugs”  one baby boomer tells me.   Then she turns to her friend and spits on Michael’s achievements.

My sons had no idea who MJ was before the t-ball game last Thursday.   My girlfriend Kelly got the text, she is also the coach and I-her co-coach/ you should of seen our self-blinged out LA Dodgers hats, so yes there was a game delay,  “Michael Jackson died?”  No way, we say,  let’s all get our black berry’s out and google- sure enough, it is true.

So that evening, here in eastern standard time, was as if time stood still.  He was ours, he belonged to our generation and now, we lost him.  Even though I haven’t really thought about him in like, well, whenever that whole sleepover thing was going on.  At that time I just thought, well, yeah he probably was, he’s kind of effed up a little, that is no secret.  But damn, I love his  ”Can’t stop till you get enough” and “PYT”.  So when I come to a stop sign in my car,  I  just roll my windows up so no one else can hear I am listening to a p o file singing.  Sick.

Kelly had a bbq at her house (not to celebrate his death) the evening—-Michael Jackson—–is deaded and we had  cnn on and the anchors kept repeating “Michael Jackson——–is DEAD.”    They said it so many times that my oldest son was like “why do they keep telling us that, they said it like 100 times.”  My youngest son simply asks ( he is five years old) “what was Michael Jackson wearing when he died?”  Long story, my son is obsessed with clothes, so I guess that was an appropriate question coming from him.

DRAMA, that’s why I tell my oldest  son.  Let’s keep getting high over those words. I bet it was orgasmic for any anchor to actually say those words for the first time to the world.   Best death  (to them) they will probably every report in their lifetime.

Which is getting me to my whole point of even writing about Michael ( I haven’t watched anymore of his drama unfold on tv or any LIVE tv-dvr’d soaps do not count-since last Thursday night).

Who the hell gave Madonna the nickname MADGE?  I don’t get it.  I don’t use it and I will not accept it.  I am a huge fan of hers and always have been, so I have a hard time believing that someone in their 30’s or 40’s  (don’t take this personal you 50 year old ladies with the cones on their chest who were sitting in front of me at the Detroit concert)  would nickname her Madge.  My guess is the media did it (Elvis lover aged) and by calling her Madge instead of Madonna would sort of give them a control over the spiraling upward-take over the world woman that is unstoppable.  Ha ha, we are going to call you Madge and try to knock you down a little and there is nothing you can do about it Madge, Madgey, Madgeaholic, Madgalistic.   Seriously, have you seen her hot boyfriend.   She is the holy mother of the world to me.  And I think Elvis was hot for the record too.

I will not succumb to calling these celebrities, who have earned their limelight, anything but their name.  The whole Brangelina is like a slap in the face too, to these celebrities.  Bennifer, Speidi (oh my god did I just type that) how high school is that.  I think the media were actually total nerds in high school who are looking for revenge that will not put them in jail.  WACKO JACKO.  Good one, but his last name is Jack-SON.

Let’s get to some fashion.  Always wear nude color underclothes when you wear white.  And if you are going to show your bottom in white leggings you either wear no panties or a thong, not white granny panties, unless maybe you are a granny, then it is ok.  Or just cover your ass with something, please.

And if your hair is damaged, like mine was, from highlights, the ocean and chlorine from the pool while on vacation, cut it all off.  I had hair down my back and just got the Rebecca Shaw cut (she plays evilness on General Hospital).  The idea of the cut (which I read in Vogue earlier this year) is to have the hair touch the  shoulder but not long enough to lie on the shoulder, when it starts to do that it is time to trim.

Of course don’t cut your hair, it took me a year to get to this point but I have no regrets.  So try these new hat styles below by Yumiko of Kitty Gallery to cover up your undesirable tresses.  They are just for summer but the perfect styles right now.

Trend alert:  long necklaces that are bulky on the bottom.  Skip the earrings if you wear a bulky necklace.  Wear bracelets with necklaces.   Big earrings go with big rings.

Summer Clothes Get it Right!

May 12th, 2009

kitty-gallery-boutiqueSo here we are in the spring of 2009.  Many women may be holding back on purchasing the latest spring clothes and accessories for personal reasons.  They made decide to skip the salons and do it themselves or dig in  into their closets and find a gem that will work with this season.   BUT if you come out side wearing some of these no-no’s, you are better off going in debt and using your charge cards to get some new digs.

The shoes with really thick, wide soles.  They look like buster browns that tie up and are probably made for people with wide feet.  They are so ugly that I can not even be seen with the person.  They are that bad.  Here is an example that I have seen and think “what the hell is wrong with this person!”  Nothing de-sexualizes you more than these shoes.  Throw them away, donating is out of the question.  I think I found some similar shoes I am referring to:

faux pas

Never own something like these!!!

Yes, they are there to your right. You can also buy them from ebay.  So ladies if you discover these in your closets,  and can’t bear to surrender them, you should just probably stick with EBAY for your entire wardrobe.

What else am I seeing out there that for some reason, everyone thinks they look great in?  Capri pants.  I think those really caught on with an older generation and for some reason, they just don’t want to seem to go away.  I will admit that the older generation, I am talking 70 and up are not going to hear me complaining if they wear them.  The groups that need to stay away from the capri’s are us shorties.  I am talking 5′ 4″ and under.  We have short legs, wearing capri’s makes our legs shorter and wider looking.

Keep these in your closet!!! Wear them too!

Keep these in your closet!!! Wear them too!

Short people 5′4″- under For Summer! We need to stick with the long, long pant leg that comes to the ground completely.  Adding a super high heel (either black or same color as the pant is a must) under the hem adds major height and creates the illusion we are tall and lean.  So you get too hot you say!!!!  I don’t want to wear long pants in the summer!  They have plenty of light cotton fabrics out there in stores, just look with your eyes and feel with your hands whether the fabric is breathable.  Pair your pants with a slim fitting tank and you will look sharp.

Have a problem with “bat wings” for arms?  Terrible term but I have heard it from a few ladies in the last year.  Still wear the super fit tank, then buy a super super light cotton long cardigan that is kept unbuttoned.  Or you may say, I can’t wear a sweater in the summer “oooooooooh, I will roasssttt!”  Seriously, I live in the midwest, 90 degrees is about the hottest it ever gets.  It is not that bad. This will create the hourglass shape by covering up the sides of your stomach.  Also vests are very chic right now and work the same as the cardigan, you can either keep it unbuttoned or buttoned.  They are extremely slimming too, something about the way the v-neck elongates you and just keeps the eye to your center.  If you have not tried one on, do yourself a favor and do it.  Try many different ones on and make sure there is a belt that goes around it or a belt in the back to help cinch the illusion of a waist.  Wear a fitted tee or tank under this and wear with dark pants.

And as far as the pants go, throw out or donate any pants that are too tight.  So many pants in the last few years have all been made of the “stretch” jean fabric.  Frankly, who wants stretch fabric sucking their bottom and saddle bags.  Sure the pants don’t “feel” tight and you can “button” them.  But you may want to see if you have camel toe.  Not nice.  Get rid of them and buy some that are not stretch and lay nicely.  If you have saddle bags (it’s your mom’s fault)  wear a trouser style jean (the pants flow out and away from your hips rather then sucking on the curve of your thigh) or pant.  Skip the pants with pockets in the front especially.  Adds poundage.  Skip the straight leg too unless you are a complete stick with no curves or just have an amazing set of legs like my friend Kelly.  Take the boot cut jean to the floor.  You need that bell of a boot cut to off balance the pear you have as a bottom.

Wear a sun dress with an empire waist (if you want to hide the tummy for the day) pick a dress that comes to your knees and not longer than that.  And if you need to throw on the light weight cardigan to cover your arms, just do it.  Also a wrap dress (you know the kind that has two belts that get wrapped around you really crazy and you get a little confused as to how it works)  is slimming and ties snuggling around creating a cinched waist even if you do not have one.   “A Line” skirts (think the shape of an a) are very flattering on voluptuous bottomed girls, your legs will look so much smaller in an “A Line” than a pencil or straight skirt.  Or if you have great legs, wear your dress shorter, shorter or short or actually wear the great short short dressy shorts that  are a little bag and cuffed at the end, wear them with heels so people know you are “dressing” up.  Show off your assests.  And if you are wearing a dress at all this summer wear nude, camel, beige, light tan shoes or sandals.  Celebrities do it all the time.  You can wear these nude colors with any color dresss.  The focus is then on your dress and your legs seem much longer because there is not cut of color at your feet creating the illution of a super long leg.  It works!!!

If you are heavy on top and tiny on bottom.  Wear a v neck top fitted with a cardigan or vest, and a short skirt on bottom showing off your legs, with a fantastic pair of sandals and a pedicure, for God’s sake.

If you are a large hour glass,  be grateful, you have perfect proportions.  You have a voluptuous top and bottom, what more could you ask for?  Show off what you have with a v-neck top that is a fitted shirt( you need to accentuate that you have a waist or you will just look like the apple shaped body.  Most importantly wear a great bra, I think we have all seen how doing so can take off ten pounds because it lifts the girls up showing off the smallest part of your body right below your rib cage.  Wear a short skirt or long pant to the ground.  Make sure your top ends between your belly button and your groin area.  Wear a long necklace and long earrings and of course high heels.

If you are tiny on top and bigger on bottom- wear  fluffy flirty ruffly sleeveless top with prints and wear dark pants to the floor or skirt (must be an a line, you will cry when you try a straight skirt on- don’t waste your time) to the knee with super heels and wear lots of sparkly earrings or necklaces that keep the attention on the upper half of your body.

Now for the perfect colors for you!  Everyone is different. Some of us dye or bleach our hair.  Please use the colors you had as a child to determine your natural season.   For example we may have blondes as winters, the colors still shine through.  Read carefully and determine which applies to you, email us if you need help!  Color is crucial and can make or break you!  In the fall we will have a more in detailed guildlines for you to follow at Kittygallery.com.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Kitty Gallery Kitty

May 1st, 2009

I must admit, I completely fell off the fashion bandwagon for quite some time.  Let me get the “poor me” over with……….my kitty cat died four weeks ago and I found my office a little lonesome with out Edwina.

Kitty Gallery was named after my love for kitties because at the time I opened the boutique online years ago I wasn’t able to have them because of spousal allergies.  He (my husband) then willingly went to an allergist for shots for me and let me get Edwina after seeing me holding her at a neighbors house when she was born.  He knew how much I loved cats.

She was named after Edina from the BBC show “Absolutely Fabulous”…….my favorite show of all time.    I called her Ed -w-ina (with a w) because Eddie’s mother always pronouced it that way.  Edwina was fabulous and would talk back when you talked to her.  She had a pink swarovski crystal collar and always laid on top of my desk while I worked.  She is missed greatly, last night my oldest son was having a hard time getting to sleep because he was thinking about her.  She would always come downstairs with me to tuck him in every night and you could hear the jingle of her bell when she ran.

I wanted to share this picture, Kitty Gallery designer Lauren painted, on a bottle for me to use as an urn.  She painted Edwina from a picture I sent her and did a fantastic job.  She put “We love you Edwina” on the back and the dates of her birth and passing.  She will do any custom painting and loves to.  You can reach her at hostess@kittygallery.com.  I love the bottle and so do my kids. My uncle lives in Telluride, Colorado, and has my whole life.  I went for the first time for his wedding, when I was just two years old, and I feel like I have very fuzzy recollections of being there, some of my earliest memories.  Either way, the place apparently lodged itself somewhere deep within my soul, because I have this unwavering conviction that it is without question the most beautiful place on earth.

But then, can you really blame me?  This is what Main Street looks like: modern art inspirations

Telluride is also home to what could be considered the world’s most photogenic mountain (my apologies to the Matterhorn), the 14,000 ft. Wilson Peak:untitled-1

I am not the only one who thinks so.  The people at Coors Light agree, and have plastered it all over their 24-packs and billboards, like this one at the corner of Sunset and La Brea in Hollywood:

untitled-2

Of course, I consider this to be my mountain.  I have ever since January of 2002, when in the wake of 9/11 and some personal drama, I found myself on top of the newly-opened Gold Hill, looking out at Wilson Peak, breathing the crisp, cold mountain air, and realizing that regardless what was going on in the world or in my life, I was okay.  My view then was the same as the one in the above picture, and now I have it framed in black and white on my bedroom wall, where I can see it from my bed.

untitled-3

And it was one of my first sources of inspiration when I started painting again, a version inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Red Tree, Yellow Sky” (which I’d seen at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston) that seemed to embody my personal style.

untitled-5

During the winter of 2004/2005, my brother was living in Telluride and working at one of the ski shops, and I decided to go visit him.  While I was there, I got laid off.  It wasn’t entirely unexpected–my television station was bought out by its competitors, and the sale just happened to be closing while I was out of town.  So when I found out I was probably out of a job, I was actually at a rock concert on a ski slope.

untitled-6

Could have been worse.  When the actual call came, from the consultant hired to deliver the bad news, I was on a ski lift, and told him as much.  He refused to tell me anything until I was on solid ground, not dangling twenty feet high on a chair.  I think he thought I was going to fall off.

Later, I got a phone call from a local newspaper reporter, asking me what my plans were.  Truth be told, I hadn’t even thought about my next moves, didn’t want to until I got home.  “Would you say you’re in denial?” he asked me.  “I’m not in denial,” I told him, “I’m in Telluride.”

Like denial, but with more snow.

I ended up extending my trip and had the best week of my life, and ever since then I have made a commitment to returning every winter.  I made a promise to the mountains.  My mountains.

And those mountains continue to be a source of inspiration.  After my most recent trip, I created my Mountain Series, which features the outline of Wilson Peak in snow white against a brilliant sky blue background.

Hand Painted Home Decor

My Silver Tracks wine bottle was inspired by the tracks skiers and snowboarders leave as they curve through fresh powder.

Hand Painted Art Inspired by Nature

When you’re skiing, you spend a lot of time ridng on lifts, listening to music (I don’t ski without my pink iPod Shuffle, Wilson Pink), so you notice things like that.  And things like the aspen trees that line the slopes, with their eyes that stare at you from where branches broke off, that became the inspiration for my Purple Aspens wine bottle.

Hand Painted Wine Bottle Inspired by Nature

It’s a motif I’m repeating on my latest piece, a recyled Prego pasta sauce jar.

Hand Painted Glass inspired by nature

It flips the color scheme, so the trees are a teal green and the leaves purple, against a silvery green background.  The rim of the jar is a deep purple, the inside rim silver.  It’s not finished yet–still painting the cap–but look for it soon on Etsy, as well as other designs inspired by my mountains.  Telluride is far from done with me.
